The Koshi Chime gongs are based on the 4 elements such as earth, water, air and fire. These elements are seen as the basis of our existence. Without these elements, our world and man cannot exist. You wouldn't immediately think of it, but elements make sound. Just listen to fire or air and what do you think water and rain. Earth also makes noise and produces vibrations.
Earth represents lightness, heaviness, hardness, roughness and softness.
The sound box of the Koshi's is made up of layers of bamboo veneer, which gives them beautiful acoustics. This pure musical instrument has a full, deep sound that is rich in overtones.
It can be hung as a wind chime, it can hang above the door where the door touches the clapper and it can be held in the hand and played.
The sound box of a Koshi Chime is made of bamboo veneer. The veneer is glued crosswise for extra strength. The metal rods in the Chime that determine the sounds are attached with silver solder to a metal ring at the bottom of the Chime. The rods are processed until they have the right tone.
There are 4 different Koshi Chimes named after the 4 elements Earth, Water, Air and Fire. Each species has its own sound, but for example Earth Chimes (gong) all sound exactly the same.
