Which mallet size should you use for which singing bowl?
The golden rule is: small singing bowls are best played with lightly padded mallets, while large singing bowls require more heavily padded mallets. In other words, a smaller singing bowl calls for a smaller mallet, and a larger singing bowl for a larger mallet.
Heavily padded mallets generally bring out the deeper tones of a singing bowl, but this effect does not apply to every bowl. For example, striking a small singing bowl with a large felt mallet will result in a dull and muted sound. Choosing the right mallet is therefore crucial for achieving a clear and resonant tone.
These felt mallets with a thin wooden handle are specifically designed to bring out the low tones of a singing bowl.
