The book Tao Te Ching is one of the most important writings of Taoism, which is one of the big three Chinese philosophies alongside Confucianism and Buddhism.
It is a collection of 81 short texts, dealing with both ontological and ethical aspects of life.
It discusses how the world works, but also how people act 'right' in life.
The first chapter begins with the word Tao meaning "the Way," the second chapter with Te meaning "virtue, bravery, integrity."
Central to the Tao Te Ching are 'following the Tao' and Wu wei, 'not intervening, letting go', that is, not resisting the course of things, but spontaneously going along with it.
