Paramahansa Yogananda was born on January 5, 1893 as Mukunda Lal Ghosh. He is considered one of the greatest sages that India has ever produced. In this autobiography he tells about his youth and the long, arduous path he took to higher consciousness, which earned him the name 'Yogananda' ('bliss through divine union').
He describes his encounters with famous sages such as Ghandi, Tagore and Bose as fascinating and life-enhancing events. In addition, he clearly explains the subtle but clearly defined laws through which yogis achieve self-control and can perform miracles.
His universal teaching, not bound to church or religion, focused on helping people to obtain a direct, personal experience of God. To do this, it is necessary to free yourself from threefold suffering: physical illness, mental imbalance and spiritual ignorance. He points to the divine high road, to which all paths of religious beliefs lead.
This autobiography has inspired people worldwide and has been a first step for many in their interest in yoga, mysticism and the Indian world of ideas. His teachings are not connected to church or religion and are therefore universal. Paramahansa Yogananda died on March 7, 1952 in Los Angeles by consciously leaving his body (mahasamadhi).
